An Introduction

Someday this blog will be filled with dozens of posts about traveling adventures and what it looks like when those adventures collide with minimalistic living, marriage, attachment parenting, location independent income, and worldschooling (be it part time or full time).  But for today, an introduction is due... maybe more of a reintroduction.

My name is Amanda (and this is my husband, Ben and my daughter, O).  I'm a Christian.  I'm a Wife.  I'm a Mother. I'm a world citizen.  I'm a teacher.  And I'm a Speech-Language Pathologist.  Probably in that order.  However, I often find myself mixing up my priorities and putting focus where it isn't meant to be.  And because of that, I battle with the same things that all Americans battle with at some level... We acquire too much stuff, we spend too much time trying to keep up with the Joneses, and we judge ourselves by all of the wrong markers in life.  This blog is meant to inspire myself (and maybe you along the way) to lead a life more worth living by reprioritizing and refocusing on what is most important.

I've blogged before, mostly for an audience of my closest friends and family.  I had a small online journal while I taught in public school in New York City... back in the day when "blogging" was barely a term and there was hardly any way to spread the word about it.  Years later, when I got pregnant and became a mother, I was looking for an outlet to process what it meant to be green, minimalist, and a parent in the United States.  You can find that blog at Pink Baby Blue Baby Green Baby. As I was blogging there, I learned it was an excellent way to both share stories about our lives as well as provide value to other moms who were going through the same thing, maybe at a slightly different time... no need to remember all my favorite books and recommendations, I could just blog them and they'd be there later!  Well, as you can tell by looking, that blog went static quite a while back now.  Let's just say that toddlerhood, working full time, and blogging don't necessarily mix well.

However, here I sit in Spring 2016 (if you can call what Boston is having a spring!) and my family and I are on the precipice of huge life changes.  We're in the early stages of actually embarking on Our Big Adventure!  What is the big adventure you ask?

... good question...

We're still trying to figure that out.  Our first step was getting out of debt (Dave Ramsey style... look it up, it's a life changer), which has taken a long, grueling, but amazing 7 years.  But as we round the corner on that, we have to figure out what's next.  We know we want to say yes to a whole lot of things.  But in order to do that, we have to say no to a whole lot of other things.  So for now, our blog will likely chronicle those thoughts and ideas.  I hope, some day, it will serve as a tool for others who might be trying to figure out the same process.  A repository of "someone else has been there" moments and a way to make this huge world of ours a little smaller by getting to know someone new.

If you're someone who strives to live a minimalist life, is curious about attachment parenting throughout the lifespan, wants to live more on less, is struggling with work-life balance, and has an insatiable hunger to see the world, you and I probably have something in common.  So email me!  Let's talk.  I'll share my ideas and you can share yours.  And hopefully we'll both learn something in the process.
